THE ESSENTIALS

  • 1

    Fresh Coffee

Tip: Always choose whole bean coffee for the freshest flavor. Brew within 30 days of the roast date on the bag to ensure you’re getting that tail-wagging goodness.

  • 2

    Burr Grinder

Why It Matters: Invest in a burr grinder to achieve the perfect grind. Unlike blade grinders, burr grinders give you consistent pieces that allow for even extractions.

  • 3

    Filtered Water

Quality Counts: If your water tastes off, your coffee will too. Avoid flavors of chlorine, sulfur, or iron. Use filtered tap or spring water for the purest brew.

Note: Skip the distilled water; it won't extract all the delicious flavors.

Brewing Rules of Thumb

EXPERIMENT!

Don’t be shy—experiment! Adjust your grind size, brewing time, and coffee-to-water ratios until you find the perfect blend that makes your tail wag. Remember, the goal is to balance sweetness, flavor clarity, and body without over-extracting and introducing bitterness.

    Filter

Cleanliness is Key: Use a clean filter that won’t spoil the flavor of your brew.

Metal Filters: Rinse with hot water and mild soap to ensure they’re ready for your coffee masterpiece.

Paper Filters: Give them a rinse with hot water before brewing to remove any papery taste and preheat your brewing vessel—just like a cozy spot for your poodle to curl up!

  • 2

    Temperature

Perfect Brew Temperature: Coffee should be brewed around 195-205°F.

Preheat Equipment: Use hot water to preheat your brewing tools to keep the heat in.

No Thermometer? Just use water right off the boil; that's close enough!
